It is the first day after I stopped my collaboration as a social media marketing manager (freelancer) for OneCoWork; a coworking space in Barcelona on a top location, great opportunities and an amazing vibe. It was a decision between going for a secure full-time job OR taking the risk, staying free as a bird, just going with the flow and hoping to find enough projects to be able to survive. I admit, it was not an easy decision.
Participating on a global tour with Startup Campus to attend multiple B2B sessions, pitching competitions and networking events.
Just one day after I made my choice, I felt like the universe had dropped me a gift from the sky! I was offered the opportunity to go on a global tour as a photographer and videographer with ‘Startup Campus’. This means traveling to 10 different startup destinations such as New York, London, Berlin, Tel Aviv, Los Angeles and more to attend multiple B2B sessions, pitching competitions and networking events. Startup Campus is a global program that guides startups on their journey toward global expansion and success on international markets by offering education, consulting, incubation and investment opportunities.
A unique opportunity.
Thanks to my experience at OneCoWork and attending lots of tech & networking events I discovered the exciting world of startups. I got to know Startup Campus and decided to jump on the bandwagon to learn more about it and fulfil my mission. My biggest project is my blog (www.farahinthesun.com) where I write about my adventures, personal stories, success & failures,… The focus of my blog is to inspire young girls to chase their dreams, get out of the comfort zone, work hard to get great results, discover new things and be fit & healthy while enjoying life the fullest.
My own business
The business world has always intrigued me. In fact, I started my own little granola business a couple of years ago. The reason I did not continue was because I realised that I actually hated cooking but I loved the business part of it. Through my blog, instagram and networking I started doing different collaborations and helping other businesses to grow online.
Girl bosses, where u at?
Being on the global tour made me realise how few women there are in the business world. Girl bosses: where u at? I have decided to get the most out of this tour. I’m going on a mission to empower female entrepreneurs worldwide and give them a stronger voice. Not only this, but also researching the keys to success for women to stand tall in the business world, the limitations, clichés to overcome and much more.
Some numbers! The gender gap is decreasing, yet there is still a huge way to go. Did you know, that the list of today’s top 25 entrepreneurs compiled by Ranker features only TWO women: Oprah Winfrey and Vera Wang. Another study by Fortune magazine says, that 94% of the decision makers in companies in the US are men. That’s absurd!
A world of innovation and inspiration.
I have been talking to a variety of men and women in the business world. I am so amazed by their reactions and how excited they are about my goal to empower female entrepreneurs around the world. Another thing I realised is how fun the business world is in general. So many people full of ambition; finding ideas and bringing solutions together. It is so much more than formal business dinners, uncomfy clothes and analytical business models. No, the startup world has way more to offer; it is a world of innovation and inspiration where you connect with people and focus on growth.
A new wave of business success by female entrepreneurs.
It’s important to overcome the barriers and get ready for a new of wave of business success by female entrepreneurs. So what can we do? One of the most important things I believe is mentorship. Startup Campus plays an important role as they not only offer an all-round mentorship program, and serve as a talent and modelling agency connecting startups with investors worldwide.
As a blogger, I am expanding my global network and I am able to reach & interconnect a lot of people worldwide. Focusing on sharing inspirational & motivational content to reach young women who want to do their own thing, just like me. Finding young talent and helping them to find their own path, taking a leap of faith in order to make great things happen.
On a hunt for talent.
The next stop of the global tour is London, where we will attend ‘London Tech Week’, a week-long series of tech and innovation-related events and conferences scattered all around the British capital. I’ll go on a hunt for female talent to interview about different topics and ask them to share their bit of inspiration & motivation to other fellow ladies.
Let’s keep on moving in the right direction and striving for a healthy balance between men and women in the business world. We are the next generation and it is time that world is not only ruled by men! (PS: don’t get me wrong I do love men too.) #GRLPWR.
